The Department of English began the session with a welcome of the first year students with a cultural extravaganza on 22 September 2017. With rich participation of the second and third honour students, the event saw a mesmerising classical dance performed by Sukanya Sibi, a very talented third year student followed by a couple of freestyle dance performances. A stellar adaptation of the play “The Glass Menagerie”, was presented showcasing the theatrical command of the students. A display of the plethora of talents by the freshers closed with the selection of the Miss Freshers in Mrinal and the first runner up in Rejana.
A English Literary Society, Mitrakshar, organised a workshop on Calligraphy on 5th January 2018, conducted by two resource persons Ms.Mukta Kansal, a modern calligrapher and Mr.Nitin Singh, a calligrapher and craftsman. The workshop saw a strong turnout of eager and interested students who wholeheartedly participated in it and explored their creative side.
Another upcoming event is a students’ seminar titled: “Representing Depression: Cultural Perceptions of Mental Illness” on 13th February 2018, where the students would read out papers and personal compositions.
Armed with a degree in English, a wide scope of careers is open to students, namely, Academics (Language, Literature, Linguistics, Art, History, Gender & Cultural studies, etc.); Media and Journalism; Civil Services; Fine arts and Performing Arts; Writing/Publishing; Law; Human Resources Departments in MNCs; MBA, etc.
