Departmental Introduction (History, career opportunities)
Department of Journalism has been one of Kalindi College's star course which has been known for its pro-active students ever since it was established in the year 1995 under the Faculty of Applied Sciences and Humanities, University of Delhi. Under the able guidance and support of various co-ordinators, the department has seen growth in multi-folds. The Department has an array of publications – Weekly Wall Newspaper, Monthly Newsletter, Yearly Newspaper on Broadsheet and Tabloid on current issues and media discourse. The department has introduced the element of field training by bridging the gap between academics and the media industry. Internships, field visits, workshops and hands-on-experience equip the journalism students for the specialised jobs ahead.
The Department has a state-of-the-art multimedia studio. With its studio and audio-visual lab, Journalism Department of Kalindi College enlisted its name among the top colleges of University of Delhi having facilities of electronic video production. To provide hands on experience to the students the Department has also partnered with the DUCR (Community Radio of Delhi University). The students of Journalism Department have been contributing in various capacities in different fields related to journalism. For instance, the alumni of the Department are working in news agencies –PTI and UNI; national newspapers – the Times of India, Hindustan Times, the Pioneer, to name a few; Electronic news channels – Times Now, News X, Zee news, etc; the students are also working with various renowned Public Relation agencies and advertising agencies. The recent laurel for the department has been the honour and award given to Ms. Maxima Basu, an alumni of Journalism Department 2003 batch, for her exemplary work as a costume designer in Goliyon Ki Rasleela: Ramleela and Bajirao Mastani.
Journalism students venture into a whole new arena of exciting career opportunities. It ranges from traditional media forms to the specialisation in contemporary media technologies, gearing them for better tomorrow. Some of the most opted career opportunities through the window of Journalism and Mass Communication are: Print Journalism, Electronic Media (Radio and Television), Films and Advertising, Public Relations, Digital Media and Event Management.
